Hey fellow fashion-lovers!
That’s My Kind of Style! was founded a little over half a year ago when I realized that my true passions in life are fashion and writing. I originally had my fashion blog on Tumblr, but decided to stand on my own to see if I can do this thing called being a fashion blogger (on the side).
Since high school, I have always been asked why I dressed up a lot. My response? ”Because daddy always said, ‘You never know who you’re going to meet, so look your best!’” I have also been asked by my friends to tag along during shopping trips. What can I say? I am not the kind of girl who will let you leave the store and/or buy something that will make you look like a hot mess.
One day, I received just one more compliment about one of my outfits and that moment prompted me to start That’s My Kind of Style!, so here I am!
My inspiration? My parents and my favorite fashion blogger, Lindsey Calla of Saucy Glossie.
Going back through my childhood photos, I noticed that my mom was always dressed up, even if it was to take a picture with me in the living room on our not-so-pretty-couch. Her outfits really set her apart from other women and mind you, she came from Vietnam where all girls have similar outfits! Throughout my life, I was always asked, “Where did you get that ::insert article of clothing here::?” and my answer was always, “Oh, my mom got it for me.” With responses such as, “Your mom has great taste!” and “My mom is not even close to knowing what I like. I need to take your mom shopping with me!,” I knew I would inherit her amazing perception of fashion.
To this day, daddy’s words still echo in my mind, “Don’t go out looking sloppy. You never know who you’ll run into and you’ll regret dressing like you don’t know how!” He was the kind of guy who was never afraid to admit his favorite color and wear it too: pink. “It doesn’t make you any less of a man if you wear pink.” he always said. Even though he wore jeans and tennis shoes at times, he always had some kind of a (tucked in) collared shirt on to make sure he looked pulled together.
Lindsey is a huge inspiration to me and I agree with her. Yes, we all love the big designers and wish that our outfit(s) look like they came from the runway. However, for 90% of the world, that’s not the case. Just like her, my ultimate goal is to give you my secret shopping tips and style advice on how to look like a million bucks for way less. I follow her and a few other select fashion lovers on a daily basis and am always looking for other great fashion bloggers to follow so give me a shout if you want to me to see what you got!
Retail therapy is what I prefer to call ‘shopping.’ It’s true. It’s therapeutic to me and it’s how I can express my creativity. Styling is how I like to relieve my stress.
That’s My Kind of Style! is where you can find everything fashion-related for the NORMAL fashionista and I’m thrilled to be sharing my passion(s) with you!
